After nine years of development, iNav4U joins Australian marine technology specialist Vanti Technology and the crew of White Spirit for a three-race offshore challenge that will put intelligent navigation to the test.

Nine years of development. One Australian offshore racing yacht. Three challenging races across Bass Strait.
For Canadian marine technology company iNav4U, the 2026 Bass Strait Cup is about more than crossing the finish line. It's an opportunity to find out what happens when navigation technology begins to understand the boat itself.
Zora, iNav4U's operating system for boats, is now installed aboard White Spirit, a Beneteau First 50 owned by Cyrus Allen, Immediate-past Commodore of the Ocean Racing Club of Victoria.
No stranger to demanding offshore conditions, White Spirit has competed in both the Melbourne Osaka and Sydney Hobart races. Now the yacht and her crew are preparing for another challenge, a three-race campaign culminating in the Melbourne to Hobart on December 27.
The installation and ongoing testing are being led in Australia by Matt Price of Vanti Technology, iNav4U's Australian dealer and marine technology integration partner. Matt is also a member of White Spirit's racing crew, bringing a unique combination of technical expertise and firsthand offshore sailing experience to the project.
Together, Vanti Technology, iNav4U and the White Spirit crew will put Zora through its paces, learning and refining the technology as the campaign unfolds.
A Boat That Knows Itself
Zora has already integrated White Spirit's onboard systems and validated and calibrated the vessel's data, establishing the foundation for its next generation of intelligent navigation capabilities.
The team is now fine-tuning Zora's ability to learn how the yacht actually performs, compare weather forecasts with real conditions, recalculate routing options as conditions change, and deliver the right information to the crew when they need it.
"Offshore racing is an incredible environment for testing technology. Conditions change constantly, decisions matter, and you quickly discover what works and what doesn't," said Olivier Hendrikx, Co-Founder and CTO of iNav4U.
"Working directly with the White Spirit crew gives us feedback we could never get sitting behind our desks. We're not trying to replace the sailor's judgment. We're trying to help them make better decisions."
Putting Zora Through Its Paces
White Spirit has already completed its first race with Zora aboard, with the crew providing encouraging initial feedback about its Primary Navigation Display.
Zora is also controlling the yacht's Garmin mast displays, demonstrating how information can be presented where the crew needs it.
The next challenge begins October 30 with the Melbourne to Devonport race, followed by Port Dalrymple to Three Hummock Island on November 2, and the Melbourne to Hobart on December 27.
Zora will remain aboard throughout the campaign, giving the crew and development team opportunities to review performance, make adjustments and incorporate what they learn between races.
"Offshore racing in Bass Strait is a constant exercise in judgement. Conditions change quickly, crews become tired, and decisions about weather, routing and the state of the boat have real consequences," said Matt Price of Vanti Technology.
"Zora brings that information together, giving the crew a clearer picture of what's happening and helping them anticipate what comes next. That's where I see the real potential for Australian boat owners and offshore sailors."
"Offshore racing demands constant attention to navigation alongside monitoring and managing the yacht's electronics and communications systems. I was keen to try Zora because it integrates all three into one seamless interface. I'm particularly interested in the dynamic routing capability. Instead of needing to manually update routing options as conditions change, Zora promises to automatically adjust optimal routes and sail selection recommendations as conditions, and heading, change in real time.
I'm also keen to explore how Zora's crew profile capability helps each helm track and improve their performance. So far, the installation has been straight forward, now for the real test."
Cyrus Allen, Owner, White Spirit
While the immediate challenge is offshore racing, the technology has a much broader purpose: helping boat owners make better decisions by bringing together everything their boat knows about itself.
It's not just about making the boat smarter. It's about helping the crew sail smarter.
iNav4U and Vanti Technology will share updates from White Spirit throughout the Bass Strait Cup campaign, including what the crew discovers, what the technology learns and how those lessons shape Zora's development.
